Levitational melting

Levitational melting uses a high frequency heater and a specially shaped inductor. The metal inserted into the inductor of the operating induction heater is held by a magnetic field that induces eddy currents in the charge.

This method is used when it is necessary to keep high purity of the melted metal sample or when the temperature of the charge exceeds the maximum permissible temperature values of the crucible materials.

Thanks to levitation melting it is possible to avoid impurities from the crucible which, combined with vacuum melting, is used in specialist laboratory and analytical applications.
