Melting of ferrous metals

In case of melting of steel, cast iron and other ferritic metals, the use of crucibles containing carbon in their chemical composition is unacceptable due to carburization of the melted charge.

Instead of graphite crucibles and graphite-carbide crucibles, ceramic crucibles for small induction furnaces and lined crucibles in larger furnaces are used for melting ferritic metals.

Please note that ceramic and lined crucibles do not heat up during induction heating, and therefore only the furnace charge receives energy from the magnetic field.

For this reason, attention should be paid to the minimum amount of melted charge required for proper operation of the induction furnace.
